What is lamination?
Lamination is a clear film pressed onto the print. At Pixelprint, it is applied cold: no heat, so no risk of warping the material. The film comes in two finishes, gloss or matte, at the same price: €10.00 per m² in both cases.
Its role is simple: to act as a shield between the ink and everything that damages it. Scratches, rubbing, UV, cleaning products: the film takes the hit, not the print. A graphic handled every day or cleaned with a sponge stays sharp much longer.
Matte or gloss, it is not just a matter of taste. Matte eliminates reflections: under museum spotlights or in a lit shop window, the graphic stays readable from every angle. Gloss does the opposite: it gives deeper colors, a photo-like finish. In both cases, lamination is applied mainly to adhesive vinyl and to prints meant to be handled or touched.
When should you choose lamination?
- Your graphic is within reach (counter, shop window, table): the film absorbs the rubbing instead of the ink.
- The surface will be cleaned regularly: cleaning products do not damage the print.
- It is exposed to light: the film protects the ink from UV.
- It is placed under spotlights (museum, lit display window): choose matte, it eliminates glare.
- You want a photo look: choose gloss, the colors gain depth.
