What is a wooden dowel?

A dowel is a simple round wooden rod. Ours is 12 mm in diameter. Slipped into the pole pocket top and bottom of a canvas or a lightweight banner, it turns the design into a roll-up banner: the top dowel hangs the canvas, the bottom one weighs it down and keeps it taut. Two pieces of wood, and the design hangs straight.

The principle fits in one sentence: the pole pocket is a sleeve, and the dowel slides into it. At the top, a bungee cord connects the rod to the hanging point: a nail, a hook, a rail. At the bottom, the weight of the wood works for you: gravity pulls the canvas taut and smooths out the creases. No tools, no screws. Slide it in, hang it up, and it is in place.

The top dowel hangs the fabric by its bungee cord, the bottom one weights it and pulls it taut.

The kit sold on pixelprint.fr includes 2 wooden dowels 12 mm in diameter, each finished with a bungee cord at the top and bottom (1 linear meter), for €7.90 per kit. The dowels are reusable: when the visual changes, you slide in the new fabric and hang it back up.

When should you choose the wooden dowel?

  • For indoor display: shop window, trade show, stand, decoration.
  • For a fabric graphic or a lightweight banner to hang like a roll-up banner.
  • When you want tool-free setup: slide, hang, done.
  • When the graphic changes often: only the fabric is replaced, the kit stays.

One last point before ordering: the dowel needs its pole pocket. So plan for the top and bottom pole pocket finish on your fabric. This detail can be checked on the print proof : design dimensions, pole pocket positions, nothing goes to press without your approval.
